WANTED Storytellers, Game Designers, Makers, Hackers and others who want to reimagine the world of Sherlock Holmes.

Sherlock Holmes & the Internet of Things is an ongoing prototype developed and run by the Digital Storytelling Lab at Columbia University School of the Arts that explores new forms and functions of story. Designed to be an open R&D space that experiments with shifts in authorship and ownership of stories, the massive collaboration also uses a detective narrative to examine the policy and ethical issues surrounding the Internet of Things.

The goal of Sherlock Holmes & the Internet of Things is to build a massive connected crime scene consisting of smart storytelling objects. This fall teams will create, design, build and test prototypes that will be plugged into a number of crime scene locations around the world.

How to get involved

1. Join the FREE open Massive Online/Offline Collaboration (MOOC) – this is open to participants who are interested, willing and committed to being active collaborators. Unlike the pilot this year the MOOC is open to all.

2. Form a team and start prototyping

3. Plug your prototype into one of the many crime scenes that are being staged around the world

This Massive Online/Offline Collaboration will create an experiential learning & doing environment that mixes theory and practice to reimagine the world of Sherlock Holmes. Over course of the project, participants will engage in lectures, teamwork and project based learning that explores the future of storytelling. Together teams design and build smart storytelling objects, which are plugged into a massive connected crime scene with locations around the world. The first crime scene will be staged at Lincoln Center during the New York Film Festival September 30th through October 16th.
